PHILIPPI — More than $1.6 million in School Building Authority funding was presented during a special ceremony at Philippi Elementary School.
Gov. Jim Justice delivered a check for $1,642,102 to Barbour County Schools during the event Friday.
The SBA funding will be used for renovations at Philippi Elementary School.
A new roof will be constructed for the school. The last roof replacement for the school was in 2000. Officials said plans for renovations on the new roof are set to begin this summer.
In December, as the Chairman of the West Virginia School Building Authority, Justice led a vote to approve an award of $111,687,534 for 19 counties for Fiscal Year 2024. On Friday, the Governor delivered Barbour County its share of funding, which was a part of the $111 million awarded.
“This sends a clear message that we’re dedicated to our kids,” Justice said at the time.
The School Building Authority’s NEEDs grant funding for 2023 also included grants to the following counties: Randolph ($2.3 million), Tucker ($8.3 million), Harrison ($5.8 million), Berkeley ($25 million), Wood ($27.9 million), Wyoming ($15.7 million), Fayette ($15.6 million), Taylor ($7.3 million), Marshall ($9.2 million), Grant ($4.7 million), Jackson ($13.5 million), Greenbrier ($6.7 million), Mason ($1.2 million), Logan ($3 million), Calhoun ($4.8 million), Morgan ($4.2 million), Hancock ($987,000), and Gilmer ($724,000).
