SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Many are still searching for answers to what happened to K-9 Officer Chase and while they’re waiting, groups are raising money to help other K-9’s.
In the downtown area of South Charleston, members of the group “Justice for K-9 Officer Chase” hosted an “Our Hearts Still Beat for Chase” fundraising event.
Artwork, sweet treats, along with shirts and pins with Chase’s face on them were sold to help raise money to purchase protection equipment for other k-9’s across the region.
In addition to this event, a memorial statue is also being sculpted in memory of Chase and will be placed in the Barboursville K-9 Memorial Park.
Group members say they’re still maintaining hope that he’s safe and will come home soon.
“The non-profit provides ballistic vests, Narcan, and trauma kits to K-9 units to departments that don’t have the funds to get those for their K-9’s. Also, besides this, we’re going to buy a statue to put at Barboursville at their K-9 Memorial Park,” says group member Cheryl Thaxton.
No further details have been released on the investigation into K-9 chase’s whereabouts but this group says there is a $1,500 reward for any information that leads to his location.
