“Mamma’s Forget Me Nots” plant sale is underway.
Carol Stowe, a resident of Russell, has been personally affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Her mom was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2015, and the family began the difficult journey to make decisions and provide the support and care she needed.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, caregivers experience difficulty and stress, with 70% reporting that coordinating care is stressful. More than half of caregivers (53%) said navigating health care is challenging, and 66% also have difficulty finding resources and support for their needs.
“This disease is relentless. It takes away their dignity. It takes away their freedom. It takes away their choices and worst of all, it takes away their memories,” Stowe said.
Her mother, Alvera Wilson, passed away in 2017. That same year, Stowe participated in her first Walk to End Alzheimer’s in her mother’s memory.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, organized by the Alzheimer’s Association, is a global phenomenon. It is the world’s largest event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, support, and care.
The team, known as “Mamma’s Forget Me Nots,” is led by Stowe and is actively raising funds and support for Alzheimer’s awareness.
A pop-up plant sale is taking place at 101 N. Main St. in Russell. The plants are available with marked prices, and payments can be conveniently deposited into the designated container on the table. A garage sale is scheduled for June 21 and 22, with all proceeds dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by Alzheimer’s.
Additionally, “Mamma’s Forget Me Nots” will participate in Warren’s 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 28.
