Clackamas County funds $1 million to combat ongoing opioid crisis


OREGON CITY Ore. (KPTV) – $1 million opioid settlement funding was approved on Wednesday which will provide funding to five community organizations in Clackamas County.

The grants were approved by the Clackamas County Board of County Commissioners to combat the ongoing opioid crisis plaguing the community.

The organizations receiving funding are:

1. CODA, which plans to expand access to methadone treatment in the Clackamas County jail.

2. Northwest Family Services, which plans to provide outpatient treatment in women’s healthcare and will expand substance abuse prevention services in Tumwata middle school and Milwaukie High School.

3. Todos Juntos, which plans to advance the substance use prevention services in Estacada.

4. Parrott Creek, which plans to create a mobile service for substance abuse in rural and under-served regions.

5. 4D Recovery, which plans to expand their current recovery outreach program targeting substance abuse and homelessness.

“Health, Housing & Human Services staff went through a long and difficult process to select the winning projects out of many impressive applicants,” said Clackamas County Vice Chair Ben West. “These organizations are ready to jump in and tackle this problem.”

The grant is crucial for the county following 97 confirmed drug overdose deaths in 2022. This number marks a 12 percent increase from 2021 and a 33 percent increase from 2020.

Drug overdose deaths remain the leading cause of accidental death in the United States for the last decade.
