The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence Award in Financial Reporting was presented to the Laredo Independent School District by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for the district’s award-winning annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by the district and its management.
“It is an honor for our financial management department to receive this recognition because it is proof of the district’s spirit of transparency and full disclosure to citizens and other stakeholders,” said Flor Ayala, LISD Assistant Superintendent of Finance, Business Services and Accountability. “This is a true reflection of the great work ethic of the entire accounting staff.”
The ACFR award is judged by an impartial panel to meet the highest standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the ACFR.
“This award represents a significant achievement for the district. We are extremely honored as a district to receive this distinguished award,” said Dr. Sylvia G. Rios, LISD Superintendent. “It reflects the commitment of the Board of Trustees and the financial management department staff to clearly communicate the district’s financial activities.”
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program (Certificate Program) in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
