ROOSEVELT COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Roosevelt County has been awarded a grant. The funds are being used to work on the area around the county courthouse.
The county said they received $12,025 from the New Mexico Tourism Department’s (NMTD) Clean and Beautiful grant program.
“After careful assessment, the NMTD Tourism Development Division is delighted to announce that, the County of Roosevelt has been selected to receive a grant award of $12,025 to aide in completing designated initiatives outlined in your FY25 grant application. Please know that we were very impressed by the level of commitment your organization has for the community. Your grant application and projects illustrate your desire to beautify your community through sustainable tasks that encourage civic pride. It is our pleasure to recognize these efforts and together we will work with the County of Roosevelt to ensure that your projects are successful,” stated Tourism Development Director Holly Kelley in a letter.
The plans for the funds include turf replacement, creating a sustainable landscape, removing the irrigation system for water conservation, and embracing xeriscaping at the county courthouse.
“We are thrilled to be able to beautify downtown with this year-round green space at the Courthouse,” said Special Projects Coordinator Carla Weems. “This further illustrates the County’s commitment to supporting water conservation efforts in an out-of-the-box concept as I was told this is the first turf project requested through this program.”
The county said the courthouse is the “heart of downtown” and the area they use for outdoor events and activities.
