Tyler man, woman arrested in connection with string of dollar store thefts

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A string of recent Smith County thefts led to the arrests of two Tyler residents.

According to a release from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, the theft that led to the arrests was called in from the Dollar General at 701 Hwy 110 South in Whitehouse around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The suspects had fled in a pickup, the release said, and were later tied to another Dollar General theft in Flint. Both incidents involved a man and woman filling grocery carts with merchandise and leaving without paying.

Due to a string of similar incidents around the county in preceding weeks, investigators developed a suspect vehicle profile and were able to locate it in a traffic stop in Tyler.

Nigel Harris, 56, and Aineda Johnson, 58, were booked into the Smith County Jail on outstanding warrants. According to the release, they and additional other suspects have been involved in a “multitude” of similar cases at locations including Bullard, Tyler, Whitehouse and other Smith County Areas.

Harris is being held on a $150,000 bond, and Johnson on $30,000.
