ENID, Okla. — Dozens of Enid and area residents turned out Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, on the downtown Square to fight for a different future for families facing the disease.

The walk was designed to bring awareness and raise funds for a cure. There are approximately 70,500 Oklahomans currently living with Alzheimer’s being cared for by around 108,000 others, according to the association.

Participants held flowers to represent their tie to Alzheimer’s — as a supporter, caregiver, someone living with the disease or who has lost a loved one to Alzheimer’s — and a white flower symbolically represented the first person to be cured from Alzheimer’s in the future.

In addition to funding research for a cure, the Alzheimer’s Association uses funds from the walk to provide support services to those currently living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
