COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – Throughout this week, the Friends of Covington County Libraries is hosting its annual book sale fundraiser where the customer decides the price to pay.
“The funds that we channeled into many activities in our county public libraries,” said Ann Morris, treasurer of the Friends of Covington County Libraries. “We also have some activities that involve the school libraries.”
The bulk of the library’s funding comes from the county and municipality, Morris said they can help bring more funding.
More than 100 cases of books have been donated by estate sales and community members.
The summer reading programs, activities and other non-budgetary expenditures are funded through the sale, but how many people are actually coming to the library anymore?
However, at the R.E. Blackwell Memorial Library in Collins, they’ve seen an increase in visits due to different services.
“Since COVID our numbers have been going up,” said James Pinkard, director of the Covington County Library System. “The increase has started to slow down a bit this year, but we’re still in a positive direction.”
Pinkard said the library is always adding services and resources to keep the count up.
That includes providing stem kits and eBooks to stay keep up with modern technology.
“We regularly update everything,” said Pinkard. “We have a lot of services that you may not know about. We’d definitely like to see more people come in and use it.”
The book sale will last throughout this Saturday.
