Family Dollar must pay Tennessee $1.1M in rat settlement | News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Family Dollar agreed to pay the State of Tennessee $1.125 million as part of a settlement related to a rat-infested Arkansas warehouse, according to the Office of the Tennessee Attorney General.

The payment to Tennessee is part of a $41.675 million fine agreed to by Family Dollar in a plea agreement the company reached with the Department of Justice.

In January 2022, authorities inspected the Family Dollar warehouse in West Memphis, Arkansas. Video obtained by FOX13 showed rats crawling through inventory and dead rodents littering the floor of the warehouse. That investigation caused Family Dollar to recall a long list of products sold at stores in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Missouri.

Authorities argued that Family Dollar sold the goods knowing that they had been stored in the rat-infested warehouse.
