Stock Market Holiday Today: NSE, BSE closed today on account of Mahashivratri – Market News


The Indian share market will be closed on Wednesday, February 26, due to Mahashivratri. Both the bourses, NSE and BSE, will not conduct trading today. Regular trading will resume on Thursday, February 27. 

The money market and MCX are also closed for trading today (February 26), as well on the same account. 

What is Mahashivratri?

Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival observed every year to honour the god Shiva, occurring between February and March. The festival is celebrated on the fourteenth day of the waxing phase of the lunar month of Phalguna, as per the Hindu calendar.

Stock market holiday list 

The equity markets will be closed for a total of 14 holidays in 2025. The Maha Shivratri holiday is the first holiday for stock markets in 2025. After this, the next market closures will be:

Holi – Friday, March 14

Id-Ul-Fitr – Monday, March 31

Mahavir Jayanti – Thursday, April 10

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti – Monday, April 14

Good Friday – Friday, April 18

Maharashtra Day – Thursday, May 1

Independence Day – Friday, August 15

Ganesh Chaturthi – Wednesday, August 27

Markets recap

On Tuesday, the stock market closed on a flat note. The Sensex rose 147.71 points, or 0.20%, to settle at 74,602.12. The Nifty 50 dropped 5.80 points, or 0.03%, closing at 22,547.55. The broader market faced pressure as BSE Midcap and Smallcap finished lower, down by 0.57% and 0.45%, respectively.
