Dollar General opens first distribution center in Arkansas

Dollar General has opened a 1 million-square-foot distribution center in North Little Rock. It’s the first distribution center the Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based discounter has in the state since opening its first Arkansas store in 1975.

The investment totaled $160 million and is expected to create 300 new jobs when fully operational. The warehouse will support traditional freight, perishable products in the DG Fresh network, and its private fleet in-house trucking network, the company said.

“We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of our first Arkansas distribution center in North Little Rock together with our team and their families,” said Rod West, vice president of global supply chain. “This facility looks to better support our store teams and customers by combining the functionalities of our traditional, DG Fresh, and private fleet distribution channels.”

Dollar General said it employs more than 5,700 in Arkansas through its stores and new distribution center. The new facility is part of the retailer’s efforts to reshape its supply chain operations. It’s the fifth distribution center opened by Dollar General since 2003 and the first this year as the company transitions away from rented facilities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

The company said in late 2024 it planned to add fresh produce to about 300 locations in 2025. The company has also expanded its private brand reach with roughly 100 new products in the first quarter of this year under the Clover Valley brand.

As part of the opening celebration in North Little Rock, Dollar General provided a $20,000 donation to the Arkansas Food Bank.
