England head coach Sarina Wiegman has been interviewed by the UK broadcaster ITV Sport. She said she was pleased with her side’s start to the game but added that, after that, they played into France’s hands.
💬 She said: “I’m very disappointed. We started well and scored a goal but unfortunately it didn’t count. And then we played our way out of the game by not being tight enough. Then they scored two goals and we really tried to get back at the end, but we didn’t.
“We started well. But we played too many short passes and that’s what they wanted because they wanted to press. We were too sloppy. We knew they were strong in the counter attack. They did that well. We know France are good. But we caused our own problems. I think we can do better and we have to make things easier for ourselves.
“We can’t afford to make more mistakes. We have to step up. Then we recover and it’s onto the Netherlands. It’s sport, sometimes you lose games too but it’s important we stick together and move on.”
