Fundraiser to rebuild coffee shop
Los Gatos community members raised over $18,000 in three days on GoFundMe to help rebuild a beloved coffee shop after a car crashed into it on Thanksgiving.
A driver plowed through the front of Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company around 9 p.m. that Thursday night. The suspect, a 90-year-old Los Gatos man, was accused of driving between 80 and 100 mph. He was taken out of his car by the Santa Clara County Fire Department and taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department stated that they suspected alcohol may have been involved in the incident.
Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company has been a hub for live music and the community for about 43 years, according to the GoFundMe page set up by Los Gatan publisher Dan Pulcrano, restauranteur Alex Hult, Los Gatos resident Roger Sanford and coffee shop founder Teri Hope with the goal of raising $40,000.
Hope intends to use the funds to help employees who were affected by the business’s unplanned closure and fund any portions of the reconstruction that are not covered by insurance.
