KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The city gets a big investment in its new “Open Doors!” program as it works to open doors for small businesses ahead of the World Cup.
Working with the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, Airbnb will invest $100,000 in the program.
“This partnership with Airbnb allows us to meet the moment—connecting increased visitor demand with the small businesses that make Kansas City unique,” Nia Webster, assistant director, said.
The program works to place entrepreneurs in vacant storefronts to provide high-visibility spaces through downtown Kansas City. The locations are along the streetcar route.
Kansas City said around 11,000 Airbnb guests will visit the city during the World Cup. The visitors are expected to generate about $100 million in economic activity.
Leaders said the partnership between Airbnb and the Open Doors program will help ensure local businesses and entrepreneurs benefit from the event and investment.
