Braiding Capital like Sweetgrass: Indigenous Luncheon on Climate Finance and Reparations

This invitation-only, in-person luncheon is hosted by Collective Action for Just Finance (CAJF) and limited to 30 participants. It will explore key insights from CAJF’s new Integrated Capital Research Report, featuring case studies from Navajo Power and Oweesta on how braided, flexible capital strengthens community-led finance and expands pathways to long-term impact.

The 2-hour interactive session will examine the creation of pooled operating capital, loan funds, and shared capacity-building resources, with a focus on how funder networks, investors, and intermediaries can develop coordinated funding strategies. Confirmed Indigenous leaders and fund representatives from NDN Fund, Moonsoon Fund, Turtle Island Community Capital, Spruce Root/Sea Coast Trust, Navajo Power, Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians Economic Development Corporation, Oweesta Corporation, and Mission Driven Finance will participate.

Participants are encouraged to come ready to share questions and insights on strategy, advocacy, and language, with the session concluding in the co-creation of actionable next steps. Catering will be provided by Buffalo Jump NYC.
