NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A former White House High School football booster club treasurer has been indicted after a Tennessee Comptroller’s Office investigation found she allegedly misappropriated more than $5,000 in club funds.
Amber Burton was treasurer of the White House Blue Devil Quarterback Club, a school support organization led by parents and volunteers that supports the school’s football program.
According to the comptroller’s office report, investigators determined Burton misappropriated club funds using Venmo between Jan. 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
The report alleges Burton transferred money from the club’s Venmo account to her personal account, made a personal purchase using club funds, and collected and retained football fees paid directly to her personal Venmo account.
Burton repaid $3,583.74 of the funds in June 2025 and May 2026, according to the comptroller’s office. As of July 1, 2026, $2,028.70 remained unrecovered.
The investigation began after complaints were raised following a club fundraiser in May 2025, according to the comptroller’s office. Burton resigned as treasurer that month.
School support organizations raise money for the benefit of students, and those funds must be carefully protected,” said Comptroller Jason Mumpower. “No single person should control collections, deposits, payments, and recordkeeping. These organizations must also follow proper procedures when providing salary supplements to school employees.

The comptroller’s report also identified financial-control issues within the club, including a lack of separation of financial duties and failures to obtain two signatures on most checks.
On Sept. 4, the Sumner County Grand Jury indicted Burton on one count of theft over $2,500 and one count of money laundering.
