2 men arrested in counterfeit currency scheme at Foley Tanger Outlets: Police

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — Two Florida men were arrested Thursday after using counterfeit money at multiple stores at the Tanger Outlets in Foley.

A news release from the Foley Police Department said officers were called to the outlet mall for a report of two men using counterfeit money at stores there. During the investigation, it was found that the two men would allegedly purchase small items and pay with a counterfeit $100 bill.

The men would then get real money back as change. When the men were arrested, officers found 40 more fake $100 on them.

The men, later identified as 41-year-old Michael Anthony Washington and 47-year-old Derick Melendez Ned from Tampa, were arrested and each charged with one count of organized retail theft and three counts of possession of a forged instrument.
