AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It looks like the Augusta Boat Club was able to convince commissioners that their current home, the Augusta Boathouse Community Center at 101 Riverfront Drive was worth saving and that the repairs would be well below the more than $1 million dollars that the Parks and Rec Department told them it would cost.
During Tuesday’s meeting of the Augusta Richmond County Commission at 2 p.m., there was a motion to approve the recommendation of the Administrator to allow the Augusta Rowing Club to remain in their current location on the lower level of the Augusta Boathouse and to use the remaining funds in the sales tax referendum funding to help in stabilization efforts at the Boathouse.
This includes demolition of the deck, the removal of the HVAC system, mold remediation in the facility, the removal of insulation and the girders on the first floor and the construction of access steps to gain entry into the interior of the building from the front with an estimated funding cost of $400,000 of the project.
The motion passed Commission, setting aside $400,000 of remaining sales tax referendum funds for these purposes.
