First round of funds for Illinois EV charging stations begins

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WMBD) — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday the first official “Notice of Funding Opportunity for Round One of the Illinois National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.”

According to an IDOT news release, the program will provide up $50 million for 46 charging stations across Illinois.

“Ongoing EV adoption is a priority for my administration,” said Gov. JB Pritzker. “Thanks to the NEVI’s historic investment in clean energy infrastructure, we’re able to build an integrated network of charging stations in Illinois’ key travel corridors that will lead to new ridership.”

The NEVI programs hopes to speed up the rate of electrical vehicle adoption in Illinois by having readily available charging access for drivers.

Applications for funding must be turned in by May 7 at 5 p.m.
