JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – The second suspect wanted in connection to a Dollar General robbery last week that saw the checkout clerk pepper-sprayed was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in Hattiesburg.
Tishina Shuntel Smith, 35, of Laurel, was arrested and transported to the Jones County Adult Detention Facility.
JCSD said Smith was arrested on a robbery charge.
Investigators, acting on a tip, contacted the Hattiesburg Police Department regarding Smith’s possible location in Hattiesburg, JCSD said.
HPD units converged on the location and took Smith into custody, JCSD said.
“Our investigation into the robbery of the Dollar General in Hebron last Thursday evening has been extensive and has now led to the arrest of both suspects,” JCSD Criminal Investigations Lieutenant Denny Graham said.
“Lead JCSD Investigator Jamey Beard will be charging Tishina Shuntel Smith with robbery. Smith’s daughter, Kendriuna Rogers, was arrested and charged with robbery on Monday and remains incarcerated at the Jones County Adult Detention Facility.”
Rogers, 21, of Laurel, remains in custody. Her bond was set at $100,000.
Smith and Robinson had been sought in connection to a strong-arm robbery Nov. 20 at the Dollar General in the Hebron community.
During the incident, the checkout clerk was pepper-sprayed, which led to the employee being hospitalized.
Graham thanked the public and news media organizations for sharing JCSD information on the incident and the search for the two suspects.
“This is a serious crime of robbery,” Graham said. “We don’t take this criminal behavior lightly and will be seeking justice in this criminal case.”
Smith is expected to be booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Facility Wednesday, pending an initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court, JCSD said.
