Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings expected to take role on FA’s board of directors for Euro 2028

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings is expected to assume a role on the board of directors for Euro 2028.

The United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland were announced as hosts of the 2028 European Championship in October 2023.

Villa Park, Mings’ home stadium, is set to be among the venues hosting the tournament.

The Football Association (FA) wanted a current player in the game on the board to help with preparations for the tournament.

The 32-year-old’s appointment, along with the rest of the board, is expected to be announced soon and will assist with providing opinion on the tournament from a player standpoint.

The UEFA executive committee gave the green light to the five-nation bid in October 2023 at a UEFA meeting in Switzerland. The UK’s bid ran unopposed after Turkey withdrew from the bidding process.

Mings, who has also previously played for Bournemouth and Ipswich Town, has made 18 appearances for the England national team.

He made three appearances during the Euro 2020 campaign where England reached the final but were beaten by Italy on penalties at Wembley. The defender’s last appearance for his country came in June 2023.
