It’s not clear how glass got into the instant coffee containers, but Dollar General said it had launched a full investigation.
WASHINGTON — Dollar General is recalling three lots of its 8-ounce Clover Valley Instant Coffee after reports of possible glass contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The coffee was sold in 47 states and Puerto Rico between July 9 and July 21. Dollar General didn’t say how many containers were included in the three lots of coffee that were distributed, or how many were sold before the recall went out.
The recall covers products with UPC 876941004069 and the following lot numbers and best-by dates, printed around the neck of the jar:
• L-5163 — Best by 12/13/2026
• L-5164 — Best by 12/13/2026
• L-5165 — Best by 12/14/2026
The glass was discovered when a customer complained to employees at a Dollar General store about the issue. The company hasn’t said how glass got into the coffee lots, but said it was actively investigating the incident.
No injuries have been reported in relation to the recall, but glass is extremely dangerous to ingest, and can cause serious injury to the mouth, throat and digestive system.
