Dollar Tree opens at former Rite Aid in Manor Twp. | What’s in store

A new Dollar Tree opened Thursday west of Lancaster city in what had previously been a Rite Aid.

The discount store at 1550 Columbia Ave. occupies an 11,000-square-foot building where the former Rite Aid closed July 27.

Dollar Tree, where most items are priced at $1.25 or less, sells a wide variety of household goods, snacks, party supplies and seasonal items. Dollar Tree has more than 9,000 stores in the U.S., including nine others in Lancaster County. Dollar Tree had formerly owned Family Dollar but sold that similar discount store chain to a private equity firm in July.

The Rite Aid along Columbia Avenue in Manor Township was one of more than 1,000 stores that were closed following a bankruptcy filing in May by the Philadelphia-based chain. Before Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy, it had six Lancaster County locations.

The building at 1550 Columbia Ave. was constructed in 1997 as a Rite Aid. It was built on a site that had previously been the home of several restaurants, including The Olympic Flame, which was destroyed by a fire in 1996.
