New Delhi: Two Uzbek nationals have been arrested in Connaught Place for allegedly attempting to exchange fake currency amounting to $12,000. The complainant, who runs a money exchange business, stated that on April 17, around 8pm, he was in his shop when two foreign nationals, aged around 30-32 years, approached him. One of the men, who introduced himself as Mirodil Umarov, said they had around $10,120 that they wanted to exchange for Indian rupees. They claimed to be tourists.“Umarov handed me a bundle of $100 notes. I noticed some irregularities in the quality and printing of a few notes. I found that some notes had identical serial numbers,” the complainant stated.“I asked them where they had obtained the dollars and told them I would call the police. They snatched the notes from my hands and fled. I raised an alarm and chased them down with the help of police officers,” he said.
