A fire caused minor damage to the Dollar General store at 424 N. Main St. in De Soto on Thursday morning, Aug. 22, according to Fire Chief Tony Ochoa.
He said a Dollar General employee called 911 at 11:27 a.m. after seeing smoke in the building. The first firefighters arrived at 11:31 a.m. and extinguished a fire in a bathroom in a storage area in the back.
He believes the fire originated in the bathroom’s exhaust fan. The fire caused some damage to the bathroom and some Christmas products above the room’s ceiling.
Ochoa said the Jefferson County Health Department cleared the store to reopen that day, but he asked that the store have an electrician check the building before they reopened.
He said the store reopened at 8 a.m. today, Aug. 23.
The Festus Fire Department and De Soto Rural, Hematite, Hillsboro and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts assisted on the scene.
