Vicksburg will be down to eight Dollar General locations come mid-April following the news the store’s location on Highway 61 South will close April 14.
While lines of customers have been visible outside that location since the store made the announcement last week – presumably lining up for a going-out-of-business discount now being offered – Vicksburg’s southernmost DG location is far from the only store on the chopping block.
Employees of the soon-to-be-closed location said they are restricted from speaking to media about any details of the closure; however, published reports in a number nationwide news outlets have reported approximately 100 locations closing across the country.
According to information from Dollar General, the store’s corporate offices have announced it will close nearly 100 stores and shutter another 45 stores of its spinoff ‘pOpshelf’ brand in coming months, due to what it called “a store portfolio optimization review,” in its earnings report.
“We were pleased with the underlying performance of the business in the fourth quarter, including improved execution and solid top-line results,” Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos said in a statement. “As we reflect on our full fiscal 2024 year, we believe our Back to Basics work is resonating with customers, as demonstrated by higher customer satisfaction scores and healthy market share gains.”
