PARSONS, Kan. — A Parsons man was arrested after a brief standoff in a Dollar Tree bathroom.
The Parsons Police Department said Thursday that two officers attempting to arrest 51-year-old Jason Purdy learned he was at the Dollar Tree Store in Parsons. Purdy, who has multiple warrants through the Labette County District Court, was successfully located by the officers inside the store.
As officers arrived to arrest Purdy he locked himself inside the store’s bathroom, stating he had a knife. Authorities cordoned the store and began negotiating with him.
Shortly after talking with Purdy officers obtained keys from the manager to unlock the bathroom door and apprehended him without further issue.
Purdy was found to be in possession of controlled substances during his arrest. Evidence hidden in the bathroom was also discovered by officers with Purdy admitting to destroying some before they entered as well. No weapon was found on him, however.
Purdy is facing several drug related charges and more pertaining to the standoff and destruction of evidence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
