A Tuscaloosa man is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail after police say he robbed the safes at three different local Dollar General stores in the last 45 days.
In new court documents filed Monday, investigators said the same man, 32-year-old Xavion Rayshawn Abrams, is believed to be responsible for robbing two different Dollar General stores in the area last weekend, which the Thread first reported.
Those were reportedly not Abrams’ first jobs, either – according to new depositions, police believe on December 10th, Abrams robbed a clerk at the Dollar General at 2404 University Boulevard in Alberta. He reportedly pointed what appeared to be a gun through the pocket of a sweatshirt at a woman working there, took more than $1,000 from the safe, and fled the scene, but not without allegedly being captured on surveillance cameras.
More than a month later, Abrams reportedly pulled the same act at the Dollar General in Five Points at 4628 University Boulevard East. Police say that the store was robbed as it closed at 10 p.m. on January 27th, two Saturdays ago. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Abrams enter the store, buy some candy, drive away and return 20 minutes later to rob a clerk at gunpoint.
Court documents indicate the safe in the second store contained significantly less cash than the location that was robbed in December, which could have motivated the third robbery, which occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on January 28th – less than 12 hours after the Five Points location was hit.
In the final robbery, police say Abrams drove to the Moundville Dollar General at 13870 Highway 69 South, forced the clerk to open a safe and took off with almost $900 more in cash.
The series of robberies sparked a multi-agency investigation with the Tuscaloosa Police Department sharing information about the first two robberies with the County Sheriff’s Office as they worked the Moundville case.
Ultimately, using surveillance footage to link the three events to one another, police found cause to charge Abrams with three counts of first-degree robbery. He was arrested during a traffic stop last Wednesday, during which he was also accused of illegally possessing a handgun – Abrams pleaded guilty to robbery in 2016 and is barred from carrying a pistol.
The 32-year-old remained in the Tuscaloosa County Jail Monday, where he is being held without bond.
