Moscow House to be auctioned with starting price of 3.57 million euro

The so-called Moscow House at Marijas Street 7, Riga, will be auctioned by State Real Estate (SRE) with a starting price of 3.57 million euros, according to the information of the official publisher “Latvijas Vēstnesis”.

The property includes a plot of 966 square metres and the building on it.

The auction will start on Tuesday, the 20th of August, and end on the 19th of September.

Those who wish to participate in the auction must pay a deposit of 10% of the starting price of the real estate into the account of SRE “SEB banka” by the 9th of September 2024 and send a request for authorisation for the auction via the Electronic Auction Site.

Payment is expected to be made within two weeks.

On the 11th of January this year, the Saeima adopted in its final reading the law “On the disposition of immovable property necessary to prevent a threat to national security”, which provides that the so-called Moscow House will be taken over by the state.

The aim of the law is to guarantee the security of the Latvian state, including the prevention and timely elimination of threats to the democratic state order.

According to the National Security Council (NSC), the law will ensure that the political activities that threaten Latvia’s national security under the guise of cultural events and interest education that take place at the Moscow House will be stopped, the Moscow House as a “brand” of Russian compatriot politics will be eliminated and the threat to Latvia’s statehood and national security will be prevented.

On the 26th of March this year, the Government decided to transfer the Moscow House, owned by the Ministry of Transport (MoT), to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), which would then sell it at auction.

Finance Minister Arvils Ašeradens (New Unity) said earlier that after the takeover of Maskavas House, the MoF will first merge the building and the land plot and then put the property up for auction.

Proceeds are planned to be donated to Ukraine.
