KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – One person died and multiple people were injured after a roof collapsed at a Family Dollar in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Fire Department responded to a reported building collapse in the 3700 block of Broadway at the Family Dollar just before 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 27.
On arrival, crews reported part of the front facade had collapsed. A 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 50-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Two were treated on scene and refused additional treatment.
The fire department said that the fatality and all injuries occurred outside the building.
The Kansas City Police Department will be conducting the investigation due to the fatality.
Broadway remains closed from 36th Street to 38th Street while the investigation remains underway and public works removes debris from the roadway. Drivers should expect lane closures for safety reasons in the same locations until the building can be secured.
