SPOKANE, Wash. – A multimillion-dollar fraudster pled guilty to multiple charges in Spokane Federal Court Wednesday.
According to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, William Oldham Mize pled guilty to conspiracy, tax fraud, and failure to appear.
The plea agreement and court documents said Mize was the ringleader of an insurance fraud scheme to intentionally cause car and boat crashes as well as stage home accidents to file insurance claims and collect the money.
The schemes happened between 2013 and 2018 in both Washington and Nevada. Court documents said Mize collected over $6 million in insurance claims, most of which he kept.
Mize originally appeared in court on January 9, 2019. After his appearance, he was released pending trial.
In July 2019, Mize fled and began living in Jacksonville, Florida under a fake identity.
