Rushville brothers charged following Dollar General break-in – The Daily Reporter

Morgan Head, 25, Rushville

WILKINSON — Two Rushville brothers have been charged with breaking into the Wilkinson Dollar General Store in December 2024.

Morgan Wayne Head, 25, 1200 block of North Willow Street, faces a Level 5 felony count of burglary. His case was opened Monday in Hancock County Superior Court 1. Judge D.J. Davis set a $3,000 cash bond and told Head he needed to be back in court for a pre-trial hearing in March.

Head’s brother, Jacob Pyles, 23, 1200 block of North Willow Street, also faces a Level 5 felony count of burglary in connection with the break-in. Court records show he has not been arrested locally, though a warrant for his arrest was issued when his case was opened Jan. 24 in Superior Court 1.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Pyles was processed by Rush County officers and taken into custody there because he reportedly was found with a gun with altered numbers on it, and also because he was listed to be in illegal possession of a gun by a convicted felon. It is not known when Pyles will be brought to the county to face the charge against him.

According to the affidavit, officers from Hancock County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched in the middle of the night to a break-in alarm at Dollar General, 445 S. Main St., Wilkinson on Dec. 10. Deputies noticed an entry door to the store room, on the southeast corner of the building, showed signs of a fresh forced entry. The deputies noted in the report the door was partially open and not secured. They also noted pry marks near the door lock and that the emergency exit bar had been broken off the door.

Officers did not find anyone in the store. They did, however, notice fresh mud coming from the store room. “We observed a pack of Marlboro Reds at the broken door, in the aisle leading to the cash register, and behind the cash register,” an officer wrote in the report.

The affidavit went on to say the glass doors to the cigarette case were open and several packs of cigarettes were moved around or missing. Footage inside the building showed a person break into the building, walk slowly to the front checkout area, and then proceed to steal several packs of cigarettes out of the glass case.

Through an investigation, the report noted Head and Pyles were identified as a possible suspects. According to the report, officers spoke with Head, and he said he’d driven Pyles to the area.

Officers say numerous items, appearing to match items missing after several burglaries, were located in a detached garage at an address where Head and Pyles lived. The items included the handgun Pyles was carrying when officers found him in a detached garage, the report stated.

According to the affidavit, Head told officers Pyles was the one who broke into the Dollar General store, and he was the one who drove and picked him up. The report says Head also told officers he knew what Pyles was doing.
