It’s obvious now that it’s going to be a very long year for both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores as suddenly there are even more Illinois locations that have landed on the closing soon list.
As I shared a few weeks ago, the parent company Dollar Tree announced recently they would close 1,000 Family Dollar stores over the next few years including many in Illinois and also Missouri. That closing plan appears to be accelerating.
CBS News just shared that 600 more Family Dollar stores will now be closing and that includes the following Illinois locations. It appears these closings have been confirmed by the Peoria Journal-Star.
Family Dollar, 820 NE Jefferson St. in Peoria
Family Dollar, 3116 N. Sterling Ave. in Peoria
The reports say there are signs on the door indicating that all the items in the stores must be sold and they will be closing as soon as possible.
It just keeps getting worse for the Dollar Tree company as Yahoo News reported that they were fined $41 million dollars for a rat-infested warehouse. The US Department of Justice even got involved and the fine was part of a plea deal with the government and Dollar Tree.
These new Illinois Dollar Tree closings makes me wonder if we’re going to see more Land of Lincoln stores suddenly get shuttered as the restructuring of the company appears to be accelerating. Time will tell. Let’s hope those employees affected by the Illinois closings find new jobs soon.
