TIGGO 9 challenges Euro NCAP 60kph side impact

Doha, Qatar: Euro NCAP (The European New Car Assessment Programme), founded in 1997, is a highly authoritative organization in the global automotive safety field. Comprising multiple European government organizations and other forces, it conducts rigorous safety certification tests on new vehicles sold in Europe. Its test results serve as an important reference for global consumers when purchasing cars, strongly promoting the improvement of global automotive safety performance.

The Euro NCAP safety certification test items assess a vehicle’s adult protection, child protection, vulnerable road user protection, and safety assistance functions through collision tests such as frontal impact, side impact, Moving Progressive Deformable Barrier (MPDB) impact, and side pole impact. Among them, the side impact test is particularly crucial. In reality, side impact accidents occur relatively frequently. Moreover, the side of the vehicle body is relatively weak with limited buffer space, putting drivers and passengers at a high risk of injury in the event of an accident.

Chery TIGGO 9 actively embraced the challenge of Euro NCAP and underwent the side impact test at a speed of 60 km/h. And with its outstanding highest in class 10 airbags protection system, robust body structure, and practical E-CALL function, it constructed a solid safety fortress for drivers and passengers.

At the moment of impact, the side airbags of the TIGGO 9 responded rapidly. These side airbags are located on the sides of the vehicle seats.

When the impact intensity reaches the designed threshold, within just a few milliseconds, the side airbags deploy immediately. They form an elastic buffer barrier between the driver and passengers’ shoulders, chests, abdomens, pelvis, and the deformed door, effectively dispersing and alleviating the impact force, preventing the above body parts from directly contacting the hard door, significantly reducing the risk of rib fractures, and preventing damage to internal organs such as the lungs caused by rib fractures, providing stable lateral protection for the driver and passengers’ bodies.

The side curtain airbags of the TIGGO 9 extend from the A-pillar to the C-pillar. When a side impact occurs, the side curtain airbags deploy quickly, covering the front and rear door windows.

The TIGGO 9 features a robust body structure, with 85% high – strength steel and 21% hot – formed steel.

During the side impact test, the body effectively absorbed and dispersed the collision energy, reducing vehicle intrusion and preserving survival space for the occupants.

With its ultra-high strength, hot-formed steel withstood the impact force at key parts such as the A-pillar, B-pillar, and doors, preventing severe body deformation and ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers.

Looking to the future, the TIGGO 9 will continue to uphold its persistent pursuit of safety. Taking the excellent performance in this Euro NCAP side impact test as a new starting point, it will keep forging ahead.

With its outstanding safety performance, the TIGGO 9 will bring more consumers a reassuring and comfortable driving experience, become a shining star in the automotive safety field, and lead the industry’s safety standards to a new height.
