Two women arrested for shoplifting items at dollar store

WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – Two Pulaski County women are facing charges for their roles in taking more than $500 worth of items from a Dollar General store in Wayne County.

The incident happened on Sunday at the Dollar General on East Kentucky Highway 92.

Some employees noticed a passenger car trying to leave the parking lot.

The employees stated that a woman inside had just pushed two shopping carts of merchandise out of the store without paying.

Police later came up to the passenger car and noticed several items in the back seat.

Police took the items out of the car and returned to the store’s employees.

One woman said she took the merchandise because her children were hungry and she did not have any money to buy them food.

The employees scanned the items, which came out to be $520.91 in total.

Karea Kelly and Tabitha Decker, both of Somerset, were charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition – shoplifting ($500 but less than $1,000).

The two women were taken to the Wayne County Detention Center.
