The strong Italians look to advance to the semifinals on Wednesday when they go up against Norway in the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship Quarterfinals.
Both teams’ paths to the knockout stage have been vastly different. Norway might not have had the most difficult group, but they managed to do enough to go undefeated in Group A, winning the pool with a 3-0 record.
The Italians finished second in Group B, going 1-1-1 with a win over Belgium and a draw with Portugal before losing to the group winners, Spain. This is the first time that Norway has made it out of the group stage since its runner-up result in 2023, which came at the end of an impressive run at the Euros, as the country had made it to four straight semifinals.
Italy was another team that had failed to make it beyond the group stage in each of the past two tournaments. However, this century, Le Azzurre has struggled to find success at the Euros, having never made it to the final four since the 1997 tournament, when Italy finished second.
The Italians finished second in Group B, going 1-1-1 with a win over Belgium a draw with Portgual before losing to the group winners, Spain.
