Portugal looks for a miracle on Friday to sneak into the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship Quarterfinals when they take on Belgium.
Portugal came into just their third Euro appearance with limited expectations, thanks to playing in a group with Spain and Italy. Things looked bleak early on as they were hammered by Spain, 5-0, in their first match last Thursday. However, by some luck, As Navegadoras managed to get a draw with Italy on Monday, thanks to a goal from Diana Gomes in the 89th minute.

Now, in order for Portugal to have any chance of advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time in the country’s history, they will need to win a Euro match for just the second time ever, and get a lot of help. With their -5 goal differential, the Portuguese need to beat Belgium by a comfortable margin, and have Italy lose to Spain by a few goals.
Belgium has had a couple of rough outcomes so far. After a tight 1-0 loss to Italy, the Belgians conceded five unanswered goals in the second half to Spain on Monday, resulting in a 6-2 defeat. The Red Flames will exit the Euros in the group stage for the second time in three tournaments.
