Italy looks to make it back-to-back wins to start off its 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship, while Portugal is desperate for points when the two sides meet on Monday.
Italy was involved in a rather tight clash with Belgium in its first match of the tournament this past Thursday. Le Azzurre found itself chasing the ball around a little bit, but did enough to come away with the all-important three points. Arianna Caruso’s goal just before halftime gave Italy a 1-0, leveling them with Spain with three points apiece at the top of the group.

Portugal comes into Monday with its tail tucked between its legs. Going up against border rival, and heavily-favored Spain, As Navegadoras was hammered 5-0, inserting an early seed of doubt, especially against a team of Italy’s caliber.
Italy has been trying to overcome its shortcomings in recent international competitions. Along with a group stage exit at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the team has failed to make it to the knockout stage at the past two European Championships.
Portugal has bowed out in the group stage in its two Euro appearances.
