COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The Columbus Consolidated Government’s finance department has recently come under intense scrutiny.
For the first time, we are hearing from the attorney representing the human resources director in the ongoing case we’ve been covering. Our efforts continue to uncover details of the criminal investigation involving taxpayer money.
We submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain court documents related to the now-criminal case. These documents provide details on the requirements for the investigation and list the individuals interviewed by investigators.
You might recall that just last week, we reported the district attorney recused himself and his office from the now-criminal investigation. A letter was sent to the Georgia Prosecuting Attorney’s Council, outlining three individuals under investigation, including Reather Hollowell.
In court documents exclusively obtained by News Leader 9, a Muscogee County investigator revealed in the probable cause summary that “Investigators were deliberately misled and lied to by Reather Hollowell. She claimed that all the information provided was all that was requested, but investigators found this to be untrue.”
Attorney Chuck Boring, who represents Hollowell, stated, “Reather Hollowell is the Human Resources Director. She has absolutely no responsibility for, nor involvement with, the processing or accounting of any business licensing fees.”
To clarify, no charges have been filed against anyone; this is currently just an investigation. We are working to uncover full details and will keep you updated on any developments.
