Campaign finance data is shedding new light on Omaha’s mayoral race, and the gap between Republican and Democratic candidates. Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert is touting a big lead in the first round of fundraising reports. With less than two months until the first ballots are cast, the three-term incumbent said the numbers reflect “citywide support.” Some of her notable backers include U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts, developer Jay Noddle, former Mayor Hal Daub, Hawkins Construction, and Mutual of Omaha. Former Omaha fire chief Mike McDonnell said their internal polling shows a different story — with the one-time Democrat leading the race.
