BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival, is at a crossroads today as the deadline to submit their financial records to the Bucyrus City Council Finance Committee arrives. This comes amidst a growing movement within the council to reassess the financial assistance provided to the festival.
Since 2018, the city council has been offering essential services such as safety forces and trash removal to the festival free of charge. However, Vicki Dishon, Chairwoman of the Financial Committee, is leading a campaign to repeal the ordinance that enshrines this agreement. Dishon is calling for an annual review of the financial aid given to the festival, citing the council’s frustration over the festival’s persistent refusal to disclose financial records since they were first requested in February.
Council President Kurt Fankhauser has voiced concerns about directing funds to the festival, particularly in light of ongoing community initiatives to raise donations for the upkeep of the local pool.
The council’s resolve to examine the festival’s financial situation is clear, with plans underway to send a certified letter to the Board’s Statutory Agent demanding financial transparency.
The official letter, dated April 5, 2024, was sent via certified mail to the festival’s statutory agent, Kevin Myers, at the Festival office.
Attempts by Crawford County Now to contact Council Clerk Miranda Wise and Bratwurst Festival Director Kevin Myers were unsuccessful.
The Bucyrus City Council Finance Committee is set to hold its regular meeting on Thursday, April 18th, to discuss the next steps.
