Del Mar City Council makes appointments to Sustainability Advisory, Finance committees – San Diego Union-Tribune

The Del Mar City Council made a series of appointments to the Sustainability Advisory Committee and Finance Committee during its Dec. 1 meeting.

Chelsea Nelson and Susan Leckband were appointed to three-year terms on the Sustainability Advisory Committee, which advises the council on environmental issues facing the city, through Dec. 31, 2028.

Nelson, a Del Mar resident since 2022, has bachelor of arts degrees in environmental and ocean sciences and in psychology.

“I’ve always loved the environment and do my best to live sustainably in my personal life,” Nelson wrote in her application. “However, individual actions only go so far, and I’d love to join a team that’s making an impact on a broader community level. As a sustainability professional for the past 5 years with a background in marine science research, I believe my work and education background would be a great fit for the team.”

Leckband, a Del Mar resident since 2005, wrote in her application that she wants “to continue Del Mar’s sustainability efforts, assist current practices, and develop additional sustaining practices, fostering a culture that goes beyond just reduce, reuse, recycle, to include rethink, repair, refuse, and repurpose.”

The council also reappointed Michael Minter to a second three-year term on the Finance Committee, running through Dec. 31, 2028. The six-member committee advises the Del Mar City Council on the budget and reviews the annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
