GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – John Arnold says a $9,000 bill has gone away thanks to On Your Side. “You get involved and things happen,” he told On Your Side’s Gary Harper. In fact, he was thrilled to hold up the latest bill, indicating he now owes nothing. “It says a zero balance. So, I’m very happy and my stress level has gone down completely.”
In a previous On Your Side report, John explained how his 20-year-old carpeting needed to be replaced. “Here’s more traffic stains going up and down,” he said as he pointed out wear marks on his stairwell.
So, John had a company come out to their home, and after showing some carpeting samples, he decided to go through with the project at a cost of almost $9,000. It was a lot of money, but the good news is that the contract indicated John had three days to cancel for any reason. “The contract says it allows for three days for a cancelation for these types of purchases.”
But although he canceled the very next day, the carpet company failed to notify the finance company called Synchrony Home. As a result, Synchrony kept billing John $9,000. “You’re being billed for a product that you don’t even have,” Harper said. “Exactly, John replied. It doesn’t feel good. It feels like someone is taking us for a ride.”
On Your Side got involved, and I got a hold of Synchrony. After providing documents, including proof that John did, in fact, cancel in time with the carpet company, Synchrony waived the bill and said they would no longer pursue John for the nine grand.
John says it only happened with the help of On Your Side. “It’s great having Gary Harper in the community because you can rely on someone who really is on your side, and basically, that’s exactly what happened.”
