Finance Minister Urges Faster Data Integration in FBR’s Tax Automation Push

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed progress on the Federal Board of Revenue’s digitization project, with officials briefing him on new data-sharing efforts aimed at identifying non-filers and those evading taxes.

The meeting of the Project Steering Committee was held at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad and attended by Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmood Langrial, senior board members and project officials.

They informed the minister that key government entities have begun sharing data to help build a comprehensive, real-time system capable of detecting tax evasion.

Chairman Langrial told the meeting that the Revenue Division is committed to increasing revenue through automation, system integration and upgraded software tools.

He urged committee members to submit practical recommendations that can accelerate the transformation of FBR’s operations.

The committee agreed that Pakistan needs a robust and secure data-sharing mechanism so that information from major stakeholders can be accessed instantly to widen the tax net.

The meeting noted that modern technology, once fully deployed, will support a documented and formalized economy and contribute to long-term economic stability.

The minister was also briefed on the steps being taken to modernize FBR systems and the timelines for deploying new automation solutions across tax administration platforms.
