Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board has announced the appointment of Mabel Wong as chief financial officer.   

Wong joined Ontario Teachers’ in January 2023 as a senior managing director in the Finance division, where she was responsible for Enterprise Planning, Finance Operations, Finance Transformation, and Strategic Procurement.  

Since April 8, she has served as acting chief financial officer following the departure of former Chief Financial Officer Tim Deacon.   

Jo Taylor, president, and CEO, stated, “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mabel Wong as our chief financial officer, effective immediately. She has been a strong leader within the finance division since joining Ontario Teachers’ and has done a fabulous job as acting CFO over the past months. Her promotion to the role on a permanent basis has my full support and that of our Board.”   

As chief financial officer, Wong oversees Ontario Teachers’ global Finance activities, supporting informed financial decision-making, risk management, and governance.  

Her responsibilities include financial management and reporting, valuation, risk analytics and model valuation, financial operations, and strategic finance initiatives.   

Wong is a senior finance executive with two decades of experience in financial services and asset management. Before joining Ontario Teachers’, she held various senior finance leadership roles at Brookfield Asset Management, most recently as chief financial officer of Brookfield Reinsurance Group.   

Wong holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance and accounting from the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. She also serves on the Board of UNICEF Canada, where she has held various positions since 2016.   

In this role, Wong reports to president and CEO Jo Taylor and is a member of the Executive Team.
