New Delhi: With the new govt likely to be installed by next week, the finance department will soon begin preparing the budget for 2025-26 financial year. While the new BJP govt will decide on the big-ticket projects and welfare schemes it would like to prioritise, officials said meetings will begin with all departments to understand the requirements and ensure the availability of funds for new schemes.
After winning 48 seats in the recently concluded elections, BJP will form its govt in the capital after 27 years. Since Delhi’s budget has to be tabled by the third or fourth week of March, officials said they will have enough time to prepare the document as per the vision of the new govt in office. Since a number of officials from various Delhi govt departments were busy conducting the assembly election, the finance and planning departments could not hold any meetings for preparation of the budget.
In the run-up to the polls, BJP released a ‘Sankalp Patra’ with a number of new schemes and projects. Sources said the administration has already shared copies of ‘Sankalp Patra’ with top officials of each department to identify projects that can be taken up in the upcoming financial year. The existing schemes and the new projects are likely to have a significant impact on the state exchequer.
