Town resident publishes personal-finance guide — with teeth in it

Michael SternStern

Shark Investor teaches how to think like a venture capitalist

Arlington resident Michael Stern wants to teach you to be something of a “shark.” No swimming in the ocean needed. Navigating finances required.

The financial adviser has published The Shark Investor: How to Apply Shark Tank Principles to Getting Rich in the Stock Market, his first personal-finance work. It is available through Amazon and bookstores nationwide.

The Shark Investor leverages the principles used by the “shark” investors on “Shark Tank,” ABC’s popular television show.

Juny Sridhara comments

“With a deft touch, Stern weaves interesting stories about modern-day investments, stocks and companies,” notes Wall Street veteran Juny Sridhara, host of the podcast “How Many F’s in Finance?” “This book has something to offer all readers, whether they are new entrants to the investing world or seasoned finance professionals.”

Thinking like a venture capitalist is where The Shark Investor starts. The book explores the difficulty of beating the market averages and how to engage in proper asset allocation. The Shark Investor serves as a one-stop shop for how to analyze and buy winning individual stocks, as well as discover market-beating equity exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

“If I dare say so myself, this is the best stock-picking book since One Up On Wall Street,” Stern says in his news release. “It provides investors a new model for picking winning stocks and growing wealth patiently. Additionally, readers will learn about passive index ETF strategies that have beaten the S&P 500.”

Must-read chapters, he says, include:

  • How to analyze stocks the way venture capitalists scrutinize start-ups;
  • Why technical analysis and chart reading doesn’t work;
  • How to avoid “Nosebleed Valuations” such as Rivian, Snowflake and Trump Media & Technology; and
  • Warren Buffett’s seven most important investment tenets.
