Clare County man charged with embezzling state grant funds, says AG Nessel

LANSING, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU)— A Clare County man is facing multiple felony charges related to the alleged mishandling of state grant funds, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.

David Wayne Coker Jr., 51, has been charged with acquiring or maintaining a criminal enterprise and embezzlement of $100,000 or more, Nessel said.

Coker, who was responsible for the finances of his nonprofit organization, Complete Health Park, is accused of failing to disclose his ownership of I-W Consulting, a firm that entered into a contract with the nonprofit.

The organization received a $25 million grant to build a health campus, and several million dollars of the grant money were provided by the state.

Nessel said, “Once he transferred the funds from the Complete Health Park account to the IW Consulting account, he began emptying the business account into his own personal accounts.”

Coker is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary examination on May 30.
