MIDDLETOWN, CT — U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro recently joined Middletown Mayor Benjamin Florsheim to tout $720,000 in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding for the Middletown Comprehensive Traffic Safety Plan.
Last month, Connecticut received more than $6.6 Million dollars for traffic and road safety improvements and studies from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law or BIL, established the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program providing $5 billion over five years. The funds are awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program established to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
The city of Middletown is looking to perform a comprehensive road safety assessment of its arterial roadway network.
By addressing multi-modal safety issues along these four critical arterial corridors. The four corridors comprise more than 12 miles of arterial roadway, and provide primary access to and through Middletown from all four directions: from the north, Newfield Street (Route 3) from Route 3 in Cromwell in to Washington St (Route 66) in Middletown; from the west, Washington Street (Route 66) from the Middlefield Town Line to Main Street; from the south, South Main Street (Route 17) from Brush Hill Road to Pleasant Street, and Pleasant Street to Main Street; from the east, Saybrook Road from Randolph Road (Route 155) to Main Street Extension, and Main Street Extension to Union Street.
